If you're anything like me, you like to get the most out of your meals, combining fruits, veggies, and all the good things for you in a delicious meal. And sometimes, those meals need to be on the go.
I haven't always been a big fan of smoothies. I found their sugary sweetness to be too much for me. However, once I discovered homemade green smoothies, I fell in love.
When it comes to cooking, I know what I like. Sticking to a small regular meal rotation, broccoli is usually my main ingredient in everything I cook. However, when it comes to smoothies, I love to throw everything in! Surprisingly, I don't include fresh broccoli, but with my favorite superfood powder, I get all the goodies I need.
Check out the recipe below if you're looking for a green smoothie that still satisfies that craving for something [naturally] sweet. You get a delicious meal that can be transported and enjoyed with one hand, and you still get some of Mother Nature's natural sugars (and veggies).

Yummy Superfood Vegan Smoothie Recipe
Makes a 24 ounce smoothie.
- 2 cups frozen fruit (I use an organic antioxidant berry mix with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries)
- 4 tbsp of Purium's Apple Berry Shake or Super Meal L.O.V. superfood powder (the Super Meal L.O.V. actually has broccoli in it!)
- 1/4 cup coconut milk from can (this gives a creamier texture)
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk (or your favorite non-dairy milk alternative)
- 4 tbsp almond butter
- 1/2 tbsp cacao (you can order it here through Amazon or find it at your local grocery store)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 cup fresh baby spinach (slightly squished into cup)
- half an avocado
Combine the ingredients in order of appearance above. I usually only do one cup of almond milk in the beginning and then add the additional half cup at the end. Depending on your blender you might want to add more liquid earlier on as it does get very thick.
Try to keep the almond butter and powder away from the sides so that they don't stick.
Note: By keeping out the extra half cup of almond milk, you can make a thicker version that is great for a fresh fruit and granola bowl!
*Food for thought:
Cacao is a natural heart-opener. Considered to be plant medicine (without a hallucinogenic quality), adding cacao to your daily routine can greatly benefit your health and mood.
You can use cacao before meditation or to start or conclude your day by mixing it with your favorite milk alternative and warming it up for a yummy latte.
